Meteorologist Clayton Stiver is returning to Charlottesville, VA and to WVIR-TV NBC 29 he announced on Friday.

Clayton joined NH1 News in 2014, and was the first chief meteorologist at the station when they launched on WBIN-TV in September 2014.

Prior to joining NH1, Clayton spent 8 years as a meteorologist and chief weather technology officer at WVIR. While there, he forecasted the weather for the Thursday & Friday noon newscasts as well as weekend evenings. Before that, he was the summer chief weathercaster at WEIU-TV PBS 51 in Charleston, IL. He has also interned at WCAU-TV NBC 10 in Philadelphia in the weather department.

A native of Bethlehem, PA, Clayton is a 2005 graduate of Pennsylvania State University in State College where he studied journalism. He also received a second Bachelor's degree at Mississippi State University in Starkville where he studied geosciences with a concentration in meteorology.

Clayton says he was in second grade when he decided he wanted to be a meteorologist, and is happy to be fulfilling that childhood dream today. He says the Superstorm of 93 and the Blizzard of 96 are still two of his most memorable storms to this day.

The winter of 2015 in New England is sure to be added to that list.

Clayton wrote the following on his Facebook page:

Life works in mysterious way folks.

It's a bittersweet day today as I am working my last day as Chief Meteorologist for NH1 News in Concord, NH. I ultimately found myself needing to make a change, for myself, and most importantly for my family. This was a very tough decision to make because I've had the pleasure of working with some great people up here and have made some wonderful new friends. Also, many of you know how much I love New England, all of the skiing there is to do up here, and the big Nor'Easter snowstorms that happen. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect winter these past several months.

I want to thank NH1 for giving me the opportunity to be their first Chief Meteorologist. I'm happy I was able to help get things off and running, especially with the weather department. I wish NH1 all the best with the future. I would also like to say a big thank you to the loyal viewers out there.

So...where do I go from here you may ask?

Well...I am happy to say that I am moving back to my second home...Charlottesville, VA. To go along with that, I am returning to NBC29 WVIR-TV and will likely be back on the air some time during the second week of April.

I very much look forward to delivering the forecast to the fine folks of Central VA & the Shenandoah Valley again. It will also be great to work with my friends and former co-workers at NBC29 again.

Be sure to come see Charlottesville Municipal Band concerts too smiley I plan on getting back to playing my trombone again with this fine ensemble.

Take care everyone!

As we reported last week, Joe Joyce has joined NH1 from NECN to take over as chief meteorologist. His first day was today.
