The NBC Owned Television Stations in New York, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, Washington, D.C., Bay Area and Hartford won a total of 21 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

The NBC Owned Television Stations in New York, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, Washington, D.C., Bay Area and Hartford won a total of 21 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

The awards were recently announced by Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) and recognize the best electronic journalism produced by radio, television and digital news organizations around the world.

NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth / KXAS won a total of six awards, including an award for “Overall Excellence” and “Investigative Reporting” for KXAS’ “Big Buses, Bigger Problems: Investigating DCS” series of reports while NBC4 Washington / WRC-TV took home five awards including an award in the “Investigative Reporting” category for its report “Slipping Through the Cracks.” NBC 4 New York / WNBC was recognized with four awards including an award in the “Breaking News” category for WNBC’s coverage of “Blizzard 2016.” NBC10 Philadelphia / WCAU won three awards including an award for “Excellence in Innovation” for its report “Generation Addicted.” NBC Bay Area / KNTV took home two awards including an award in the “News Series” category for its investigative report “Arrested at School” while NBC Connecticut / WVIT was recognized with one award for “Excellence in Video.” Additionally, both WRC-TV and WCAU took home awards for “Best Website” in recognition of their digital platforms.

The regional winners are automatically advanced to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be judged in May 2017. The national awards will be announced in June 2017 and the awards will be presented at the RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala at Gotham Hall in New York City on October 9, 2017.

RTDNA has recognized outstanding achievements in electronic journalism since 1971. This year, RTDNA awarded 751 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 16 categories, including Overall Excellence, Breaking News, Investigative Reporting, and Excellence in Innovation. RTDNA received nearly 4,300 entries during the 2017 awards season.
