WBTS NBC Boston today announced that J.C. Monahan will join the NBC Boston team in July as news anchor of the station’s afternoon and evening weekday newscasts.

WBTS NBC Boston today announced that J.C. Monahan will join the NBC Boston team in July as news anchor of the station’s afternoon and evening weekday newscasts.

The announcement confirms the rumours that she was joining NBC Boston after she announced she was leaving WCVB ABC 5 in February.

J.C. will deliver the latest, local news to viewers in the Greater Boston area. J.C. will also contribute to NBC Boston’s special programming. She will make her on-air debut in mid July.

“We are thrilled to welcome J.C. to the NBC Boston family. Her years of experience in the Boston news scene, both as a news anchor and meteorologist make her an invaluable addition and I’m proud and honored to call J.C. a member of our team,” said Kenny Plotnik, Vice President of News for NBC Boston.

J.C. will return to the NBCUniversal family after working for stations throughout New England including necn.

Monahan is an Emmy award-winning journalist and was most recently the co-anchor for WCVB NewsCenter 5 at 4:00, 5:00 and 5:30 PM, and also co-anchored Channel 5's award-winning nightly news magazine "Chronicle" alongside Anthony Everett. J.C. joined Chronicle in May 2013, and transitioned to Chronicle full-time until she left the station in May. She joins her former 5pm co-anchor Phil Lipof, who left WCVB in July 2016 to join NBC Boston before the station launched on January 1, 2017.

J.C. joined WCVB as a staff meteorologist in September 2001 and was previously the meteorologist for the weekday editions of "The EyeOpener" and "Midday" newscasts. During her years as a meteorologist, she had appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" as a guest meteorologist. J.C. was also the creator and host of the weekly talk show “Boston’s View.” After the inception of "Boston’s View" in 2009, J.C. has interviewed such notable personalities as comedians Dane Cook and Lenny Clarke, actress Jane Seymour, Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer and sports stars Cam Neely and Jerry Remy.

Before joining WCVB, J.C. served as the weekend meteorologist for necn. Prior to joining NECN, she worked as the weekend forecaster and entertainment reporter for WPXT-TV in Portland, Maine. Early in her career, she was the news director for WZON-AM in Bangor, Maine, where she earned awards from the Associated Press and Maine Association of Broadcasters for Best Radio Newscast and Best Series Reporting.

A native of Newton, J.C. is a graduate of the University of Maine where she earned a Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. She later graduated from Mississippi State University's Broadcast Meteorology Program. J.C. is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. In 2004, she was awarded the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval in recognition of her professionalism in weather forecasting and reporting.
