George Colli is leaving his job as an investigative reporter at WVIT-TV NBC 30 (NBC Connecticut) in Hartford to join Cox Media Group's Washington, D.C. bureau as a correspondent.

George took to Facebook to make the announcement this afternoon.

"I have some exciting news to share with you all. I'll be starting a new job after the first of the year as a Cox Media Group Washington DC Correspondent. I'll be reporting on all things DC for their affiliates across the country. The closest affiliate to home will be Fox 25 in Boston. It will be a mix of breaking political and election news along with investigations. Im very excited about the opportunity!

That being said, it is bittersweet to leave my home state. It's been an incredible five plus years to be reporting in Connecticut. Some days were life changing and through it all you guys were incredibly supportive. The trust and kindness you showed me through the last five years helped me through some difficult stories. I appreciate the trust you showed in me. I need to thank everyone at Fox CT/Hartford Courant and NBC Connecticut who helped mentor me. Also to Tom Dudchik from CTCapitolReport and Duby McDowell and Dean Pagani at The Laurel CT who were in my corner from day one. You all became great friends. To my friends and family who helped support me- I can never thank you enough. To my parents and brother, I would have never been able to do this without the love and support you gave me. I'll write more when I get closer to the start date of this next job. I hope you all keep in touch and let me know when your visiting the nations Capitol."

George has been a member of the NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters since joining the station in 2012. His first day with the station was on the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. In addition to reporting on the Sandy Hook aftermath, George reported on the Boston Marathon bombings, the Cheshire home invasion trials, the Hartford Distributors workplace shooting, Tropical Storm Irene, Super Storm Sandy and other major weather events.

Before joining NBC Connecticut, George was a general assignment reporter at WTIC-TV FOX 61 in Hartford. While there, he opened the stations New Haven news bureau in 2011 and earned an Emmy nomination for his breaking news coverage of the Joshua Komisarjevsky death sentence.

Before his time in broadcasting, George spent time as a real estate agent, an assistant director of admissions, and also did research for NBCOlympics.com.

A native of Suffield, CT, George is a 2001 graduate of Providence College where he earned a Bachelor's degree in political science.
