Tyler Jankoski has joined WVIT-TV NBC 30 (NBC Connecticut) as a weather editor, New England One has learned.

Tyler will also fill-in as an on-air meteorologist, in addition to his weekday duties of putting together content for the stations social media accounts, website, and mobile apps. Tyler tells us that this is a "forward-thinking position that I’m very excited about."

This continues NBC Connecticut's recent investment and commitment to deliver viewers accurate, immediate and reliable weather forecasts. The station recently unveiled "First Alert 1," the first-ever weather vehicle equipped with mobile radar built on a custom Jeep Wrangler 4x4. They also unveiled a brand new First Alert Weather Center to deliver more weather information and road conditions from across the state in each of its local newscasts. With Tyler, NBC Connecticut will now have 7 meteorologists on staff.

"I am thrilled that my two-time intern Tyler Jankoski is now working for our ‎First Alert CT weather team! In my entire experience at NBC Connecticut this, by far, is the best weather team we've ever assembled" chief meteorologist Brad Field said on Facebook.

Tyler joins NBC Connecticut from WGGB-TV ABC 40/WSHM-LD CBS 3 in Springfield, MA where he has been the weekend evening meteorologist since May 2014.

Tyler is a 2014 graduate of Penn State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in meteorology. During college, he was very involved in Penn State's student-run Campus Weather Service, and served in a variety of roles including Vice President. He also spent time as a graphics producer and meteorologist at WPSU-TV, the University's PBS television station; and was a host on CNET-TV's "Weather or Not."

This move marks a return to NBC Connecicut for Tyler - he interned with the station twice during college in 2012 and 2013.

A native of Bristol, CT, Tyler started forcasting the weather in 2004 when he was in junior high school. Two years later, he started his website www.TylersWeather.com and provided daily forecasts to his readers.

Tyler's last day at WGGB/WSHM is May 31.
