Barbara Morse Silva has been moved from the weekday Sunrise show to weekend evenings at WJAR-TV NBC 10 in Providence, New England One has learned.

Up to now, Barbara had been anchoring NBC 10 News Sunrise newscast alongside Frank Coletta since 2011. Coletta will be going back to being the solo anchor for now, which he has been for the majority of the time he has anchored the newscast since 1985.

The weekend evening newscasts were being anchored by Susie Steimle, who had just been promoted to that position in November 2014. Steimle left WJAR to take a freelance reporting job at Boston's WBZ-TV CBS 4 in January.

Inside sources tell us that the change is effective immediately, and also effects Barbara's Health Check franchise, which is being eliminated in its current form.

We asked WJAR news director Chris Lanni for comment, he said that he does not comment on personnel, but tells us that the Health Check segment is not being eliminated. Our source says Health Check will continue, but not in its current form, and will not be produced locally.

Barbara has been with WJAR for almost 20 years, joining the station in June 1995 as a health reporter. She had also anchored the weekend evening newscasts for the 3 years prior to her joining the Sunrise show.

Barbara won an Associated Press Award in 2008 for her report on Shaken Baby Syndrome, and a Best of RI Award in 2013. Barbara has also been nominated for four New England Chapter Emmy Awards.

Barbara also has a passion for working in the local community, and it shows. She has received awards over the years for many of the organizations that she supports including A Wish Come True, The Tomorrow Fund, the Rhode Island Blood Center, the Rhode Island Black Nurses' Association, The Rhode Island Black Historical Society, Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, and the Visiting Nurse Service of Greater Rhode Island.

She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and currently serves as the president of the Southern New England Association of Black Journalists.

Before joining WJAR, Barbara was the weekend general assignment reporter at WISH-TV CW 8 in Indianapolis, IN. Prior to that, she was an anchor/reporter at WLVI-TV CW 56 in Boston.

She has also worked as a reporter for WLNE-TV in Providence; WAND-TV in Decatur, IL; and KOLD-TV in Tucson, AZ;

Barbara is a native of Detroit, MI, but has lived in New England for most of her adult life. She is a 1983 graduate of Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis where she achieved a Bachelor's degree in speech communications.
