WJAR-TV NBC 10 anchor Dan Jaehnig is about to get roasted. In a good way!

Dan is being honored tomorrow by The Fund for Community Progress Friday with a roast by local celebrities and friends at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston. The Roast is The Fund’s signature annual fund-raising event, and monies raised help to support The Fund’s initiatives and partner agencies.

The Fund for Community Progress is Rhode Island's Community Giving Fund - connecting donors to causes they care about.  The Fund connects donors to 25 different charitable agencies in their own communities so they can become part of the solution to extinguish poverty, hunger, illiteracy, violence and discrimination.

For more than 30 years, The Fund has been leading Rhode Island in socially responsive philanthropy. The Fund was established in 1982 as an alliance of 13 community-based Rhode Island charities that shared a common mission. Their goal was to raise money for their grassroots advocacy by opening the door for employees to direct their workplace contributions to social change. To date, The Fund has raised over $7 million in donations.

Dan is being recognized for his dedication to community good-cause initiatives. He is very involved in the local community, and has worked with many charities including the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center, The Fund for Community Progress, Inspiring Minds, Tides Family Services, Meals on Wheels and the Citizens Bank Champions in Action Program. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Phoenix House since 2013.

Dan told The Providence Journal that he is "a little nervous, but I'm looking forward to it."

A six-time Emmy Award winning journalist, Dan is currently the evening news anchor at WJAR-TV. He anchors the newscasts at 5pm & 11pm alongside Patrice wood; and the 11pm newscast with Alison Bologna.

Dan joined WJAR for the second time in 2008 from WFXT-TV FOX 25 in Boston where he was an anchor and reporter. He joined WJAR the first as an anchor and reporter before he left in 2002 to join FOX 25. He also worked at WWLP-TV NBC 22 in Springfield, MA as an anchor and investigative reporter. Before WWLP, Dan spent a short time on the assignment desk at WPRI-TV CBS 12 in Providence.

During his career, Jaehnig has been front and center on numerous breaking stories. He reported live from New York City on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and was on the air extensively with live coverage of The Station nightclub fire in West Warwick, Rhode Island. He has covered many other stories from President Reagan's funeral in Washington D.C., to Martha's Vineyard where JFK Jr.'s plane crashed, to Ireland on a special series focusing on New England's Irish roots. He also reported during the Boston Marathon bombing, for which he was a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for journalism excellence in Field Anchoring and Reporting.

Dan is a native New Englander, having grown up the youngest of seven brothers in Quincy, MA. He is a graduate of Suffolk University in Boston, and in 2004 was given the University's Outstanding Alumni Award.

The Roast starts with a reception at 5:30pm, followed by dinner at 6:15pm and the performance at 7:30pm.
