Good Morning Connecticut anchor Jim Watkins has left WTNH-TV ABC 8 in New Haven, CT.

Sources inside WTNH tell The Laurel that staff was notified yesterday morning that Jim would no longer be working at the station.

Jim joined WTNH last June as a freelancer to anchor weekend mornings after Jeff Valin left the station to join NBC Connecticut. He was upped to weekday morning anchor after Chris Velardi left the station for a job in public relations.

Before joining WTNH, Jim was the anchor of the weekend editions of "PIX News at Six" and "PIX News at Ten" on WPIX-TV CW 11 in New York City.

While working at WPIX, Jim received three Emmy awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award for Broadcast Excellence.

Jim was Tribune Broadcasting’s lead anchor during the 9/11 live television coverage consecutively for 5 days. In 2014, his recollections of the tragedy, starting with the day before the World Trade Center attack, were featured in the NatGeo documentary “9/10: The Final Hours.”

He joined the station on October 26, 1998 where he co-anchored the weeknight news at 10 pm with Kaity Tong after three years working at WNBC-TV in New York.

While at WNBC, Watkins anchored the weekend editions of NewsChannel 4 at 6 and 11, as well as "Weekend Today in New York". In addition to his anchoring and reporting duties at WNBC, Watkins also hosted a nationally televised cable show, "Great Stuff" on NBC's business cable channel CNBC.

He has also been an anchor at WPHL-TV in Philadelphia. In addition, he has worked as a correspondent for FOX syndicated show Entertainment Journal in Los Angeles; a host for WBZ-TV's Evening Magazine in Boston; an anchor at WTVF-TV in Nashville; and an anchor and reporter at WKPT-TV in Kingsport, TN.

Jim is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he studied broadcast journalism.

An email requesting comment from WTNH has not been returned.
