Leslie Mayes is joining WVIT-TV NBC Connecticut as a reporter, WVIT VP of News Matt Piacente has announced.

Leslie is currently a morning reporter and multimedia journalist for Time Warner Cable News in Charlotte, NC, where she has been since 2013.

Previously, She was a Washington, D.C. bureau producer for Time Warner Cable News. She covered the House, Senate, White House and federal agencies, localizing news from the federal government for viewers in each of the television markets served by Time Warner Cable. Among the highlights of her time in the Nation's Capitol, Leslie covered the down to the wire Congressional debate over raising the national debt limit in 2011 as well as President Obama's 2012 and 2013 State of the Union addresses. Leslie also traveled to Tampa and Charlotte to cover the 2012 Republican and Democratic National Conventions.

Leslie started her career at Time Warner's NY1 News in New York City as a general assignment news assistant, and later as a news assistant on "Inside City Hall," NY1's nightly political show. During her time on "Inside City Hall," she was honored with a New York Press Club award for best political coverage. She also interned for NY1 during college.

A native of Washington, D.C., Leslie is a graduate of St. John's University in Jamaica, NY where she earned a degree in political science and journalism. Leslie is a member of the National Press Club, and the National Association of Black Journalists.

Leslie is "excited to come back to the Northeast!"

Her first day at WVIT is February 16.
