Elysia Rodriguez is joining New England Cable News as a freelance reporter, New England One has learned.

"Happy to announce I'm back in New England!" she announced on her Facebook page today. "I'll be freelance reporting for NECN."

Elysia joins NECN from Media General's Buffalo, NY duopoly WIVB-TV CBS 4/WNLO-TV CW 23 where she was a reporter and fill-in anchor.

Prior to that, Elysia spent almost 5 years at Media General sister station WWLP-TV NBC 22 in Springfield, MA as a anchor and reporter.

During her time at WWLP, she won two New England Chapter Emmy Awards related to coverage of the 2011 Springfield tornado. She has also won two Associated Press Awards, as a reporter in 2009 and as an anchor in 2011.

Elysia has also been a reporter at WQOW-TV ABC 18 in Eau Claire, WI. She started her career at WPRI-TV CBS 12 in Providence, RI first as an assignment editor, and later a producer of the 5:30pm newscast.

Born in Tampa, FL, Elysia was primarily raised in the Philippines. She is a 2005 graduate of Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI where she earned dual Bachelor degrees in both communications and political science.

She starts with NECN on Friday.
