Cheryl Fiandaca, one of Boston's most highly regarded investigative reporters, has joined CBS Boston’s WBZ-TV as the station's chief investigative reporter for the I-Team.

The announcement was made today by the stations’ News Director Johnny Green.

An award-winning broadcast journalist, Fiandaca comes to WBZ-TV from WHDH 7 News in Boston where she was an investigative reporter. Over the past several years, she has distinguished herself with her special brand of investigative journalism: getting exclusive interviews with newsmakers, uncovering information on breaking news stories and conducting wide-ranging investigations that have led to meaningful changes in government.

“We are thrilled to have Cheryl at WBZ-TV,” said Green. “She is a well-known journalist who is trusted and respected for investigations that uncover widespread fraud, corruption and scandal. Cheryl will be a fantastic addition to the I-Team and our news organization.”

Prior to WHDH, Cheryl was the Bureau Chief for the Boston Police Department’s Bureau of Public Information. As the BPD spokesperson she was responsible for media relations and internal communication. She managed the flow of information during the Boston Marathon crisis using social media to communicate directly with the community and news organizations. During her tenure there, she won several social media awards and accolades for her use of social media.

Cheryl began her television career reporting in New York City at WABC-TV 7 and later moved to WCBS-TV 2. In 2009 she moved to Boston to join WCVB ABC 5.

An attorney licensed in Massachusetts, New York and the District of Columbia, Cheryl is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. She was also adjunct professor at Emerson College in Boston.

A native of East Boston, Cheryl earned a Bachelor's degree from Suffolk University and a Juris Doctor degree from New England School of Law.

Cheryl grew up in a big Italian family with six brothers and sisters. She is the recipient of the 2001 Italian Charities of America’s "Newscaster of the Year" award. In February 2011, the Pirandello Lyceum Society selected Fiandaca for the prestigious I Migliori Award, given for outstanding achievement to Americans of Italian descent.

In June 2012, Suffolk University honored her with its Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award.

She had been married to former NYPD commissioner William Bratton from 1988 to 1998.

Cheryl has appeared on numerous panels in the U.S. and Europe, speaking on the use of social media and her role during the Boston Marathon bombing and subsequent manhunt.

Cheryl's first day at WBZ is January 30.
