Bree Sison is leaving Boston's WBZ CBS 4/WSBK 38, New England One has learned.
Bree joined WBZ in April 2012 as a reporter and anchor, and has primarily been assigned to weekday mornings. Most recently, Bree has been reporting for WBZ's evening newscasts, but is going back to mornings for her final month at the station.
"I've worked with some of the most talented photographers, editors, producers, reporters and anchors in the country" Bree told New England One.
"Home is where you make it and the work we've been able to do together the past 4 years has made Boston an incredible home. I've never been more proud to live anywhere than I was the day the Red Sox World Series parade reclaimed Boylston Street. I've never been more humbled by the people I've interviewed than I was by the people who opened up their souls to us, sharing their mental health experiences, in "Matters of the Mind." This market is special and it's a privilege to cover it. I'm excited by what's ahead and happy to finish out my time at 'BZ with the morning crew I love so much" she said.
In her four years at WBZ, Bree has been part of a National Emmy Award winning broadcast live from Newtown, CT. She also contributed to the station's coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings which was honored with a Peabody Award and an Alfred I. duPont Award. For her work covering the Red Sox World Series win, Bree was nominated for a New England Emmy for Best Sports Reporter.
She has been also recognized by the Massachusetts Providers Council for her series on mental health, “Matters of the Mind.”
Bree came to WBZ from WEAR ABC 3 in Pensacola, FL where she was the morning news anchor. During her time there, Bree covered the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill from the ground and from the air. Field anchoring live for nearly two months straight, she kept viewers up to date on where the oil was and what the Coast Guard and BP were doing to protect the beach.
Before joining WEAR, Bree was a morning anchor and general assignment reporter at WMBB ABC 13 in Panama City, FL. While working in this small market, Bree says that she developed a range of skills that put her well ahead of other journalists. Working as a "one person band," Bree learned to write, shoot, and edit her own stories. She also gained experience with investigative reporting, anchoring, producing, and posting stories to the Internet. For her versatility, the Florida Associated Press recognized her in 2008 for Individual Achievement.
Bree began her television career in Virginia where she worked on local cable access programming in Richmond and Chesapeake. She also spent time as an intern at WTVR CBS 6 in Richmond.
A native of Norfolk, VA, Bree is a 2012 graduate of The George Washington University where she earned a Masters degree in professional studies and political management. She is also a 2006 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in both political science and mass communications.
Bree's last day at WBZ is at the end of April, and she has not yet announced where she is going.
