Steve Aveson is exiting New England Cable News in Boston after 6 years at the station, New England One has learned.

"I live for the work" Steve told colleagues in an email. "And for almost 6 years I have loved the process here at NECN and it's getting better all the time."

Steve has been a news anchor at NECN since joining the regional cable news station in 2010, and he had only positive comments in reflection of his time at NECN - "Love love love my colleagues" he told New England One.

Steve has deep ties to New England television news, working in multiple newsrooms across the region.

He began his career as contributing host for Evening/PM Magazine at WBZ-TV in Boston where his New England Portrait series introduced him to distinguished characters from Portland, ME to Pawtucket, RI.

He anchored news breaks for The Christian Science Monitor channel in Boston; and was a correspondent and anchor at WXIA-TV in Atlanta.

Nationally, Steve spent four years working at ABC news where he was a correspondent for Good Morning America and 20/20. He also served as anchor for several ABC News programs including, World News This Morning, Good Morning America Sunday and ABC’s Emmy award winning Discovery News.

Steve has also spent time as an anchor and reporter at WCVB-TV and at WFXT-TV in Boston.

Prior to joining NECN, Steve spent seven years as the primary news co-anchor at WPRI-TV in Providence, RI.

During his career so far, Steve has tracked world events and breaking news from Moscow and Madrid to Dublin and Nagano. His work has earned him respect as a storyteller along with 6 Emmy awards and the privilege of filing reports from all 50 of the United States.

A native of San Francisco, CA, Steve is a graduate of Wheelock College in Boston where he earned a degree psychology.
