Doug Meehan is an anchor at KPNX-TV NBC 12 in Phoenix, AZ, anchoring the morning newscast 12 News Today.
Doug joined KPNX from WTKK-FM 96.9 in Boston where he hosted his own show for almost two years. Prior to that, Doug spent almost 8 years at WFXT-TV FOX 25 as the first full time helicopter reporter in Boston’s television history. In addition to reporting from SkyFox, he was also an entertainment reporter and fill-in anchor. Doug has also worked at WHDH-TV in Boston; KTVT-TV in Dallas, TX; WFAA-TV in Dallas, TX; WTSP-TV in Tampa, FL; KEYE-TV in Austin, TX; WPRI-TV in Providence, RI; New England Cable News in Boston; and at Cape 11 News on Cape Cod.
A native of West Yarmouth, MA, Doug is a 1988 graduate of Westfield State University in Westfield, MA where he studied mass communications.
1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
I have an iPhone5s and my favorite apps in no particular order are... Twitter, Instagram, FlightTrack and RadarScope.2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
My favorite assignments are ones that expose me to people, places and experiences that I wouldn’t normally get to see or do outside of television.
The least favorite - anytime I have to deal with the dark side of human behavior.3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
Working in TV has been something I've wanted to do since I was 12. So if there was a plan B, perhaps I’d like to give being a college professor a try.4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Funny, I really didn’t have a “favorite" cartoon growing up. Although I did enjoy the "Jackson 5ive" and "Jonny Quest”.5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
I have a particular 30 minute vice. That free time is spent in appointment viewing of “Pardon the Interruption”, aka - “P.T.I” on ESPN.
6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
If I could travel anywhere in the world it would have to be Ireland. A bucket list item yet to be checked.7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
Selecting one particular dinner guest is a difficult one. I think I’d choose either Jesus Christ or John F Kennedy.8. Do you collect anything?
As far a collecting things... even though I only have a couple, I would like to have a large guitar collection.9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
My iPod stays on shuffle but old school Elton John or the Commodores always seems to be playing.
10. What is one of your favorite quotes?
Walt Disney was quoted as saying... “If you can dream it, you can do it.” How can you not love that?11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
One of my closest friends of almost 40 years has been battling cancer. His diagnosis and subsequent fight serves as a reminder that we only have one shot to get it right.
