Former WTNH & WTIC meteorologist Geoff Fox has returned to TV, this time in California. He joined KMIR-TV NBC 36 in Palm Springs as a meteorologist.

He announced the news on December 18, 2014 saying "Earlier this afternoon I met with the news director and general manager of KMIR in Palm Springs. I am thrilled to announce I start on January 1st."

Geoff also says that he will eventually start doing the broadcasts from a studio he is building in his garage on occasion. "I’ll still be live with realtime interaction with the anchors. We just won’t be in the same room" he says.

Geoff left TV news a little over two years ago after he was fired from his job at WTIC-TV FOX 61 in Hartford, CT for "inappropriate conduct." WTIC released a canned statement after he was let go, saying "FOX CT has terminated the employment of Geoff Fox effective November 16, 2012 for inappropriate conduct which was brought to the attention of station executives late last night. As this is a personnel matter, FOX CT will offer no further comment or details surrounding Mr. Fox’s dismissal."

Geoff issued a response on his blog saying "I had no idea this private conversation would be made public, but what I did was still wrong even if it had remained private. This is a very difficult time for my family. I betrayed a trust with my wife and daughter which won’t be mended quickly. I have made promises to them I intend to keep."

WTIC had hired Geoff after his contract was not renewed at WTNH-TV ABC 8 in New Haven, CT. "So, how was your day at work?" he asked readers of his blog. "Probably better than mine. After 26 years at 8 Elm Street I’m not being invited back at the end of my current contract. I got the word at 4:00 PM Wednesday. I’m done at the end of February" he said.

Geoff joined WTNH in May of 1984, and in his 26 years there did everything from forecast hurricanes Gloria, Bob & Irene to flying through them twice. He also got to fly in a F/A-18 with the Blue Angels, experience Mt. Washington in mid-January with 100+ mph winds, and has sailed under Long Island Sound in two Groton based Los Angeles class Fast Attack submarines.

Prior to joining WTNH, and after spending eleven years in radio, Geoff was hired by WGRZ-TV NBC 2 in Buffalo, NY as the host of "PM Magazine." Geoff says that he "desperately wanted to work inside a warm building" after all of the cold snowly location shoots required for PM Magazine. There was a weekend weather opening at WGRZ, so he applied adding “I don’t know anything about the weather.” Luckily, his background in computers and math were the right combination, and with a lot of reading and practice, he was soon forecasting.

A native of New York City, Geoff is a graduate of Emerson College where he studied mass communications. He also has a broadcast meteorology degree from Mississippi State University.

a 7 time NATAS-New England EMMY winner, Geoff says he is "super excited about KMIR and will be devoting lots of time to make sure everything works perfectly."
