Erika Martin has joined WCAU NBC 10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a weekend evening meteorologist the station announced today.

She can be seen weekends on NBC10 News at 6 PM and 11 PM.

“Erika is an important addition to our First Alert Weather team,” said Anzio Williams, Vice President of News for NBC10 and Telemundo62. “Having covered severe weather events in numerous markets in the country, she is uniquely qualified to alert our viewers to changing conditions across the Greater Philadelphia region.”

Martin is a Certified Storm Spotter for the National Weather Service. She is in the process of completing her certification to become a certified broadcast meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

“Seeing how quickly severe weather can change your life is what inspires and motivates me,” added Martin. “My goal is to get the most accurate and reliable information to our viewers as quickly as possible.”

Prior to joining NBC10, she served as a freelance meteorologist at WCBS 2 and WPIX 11 in New York City.

Before that, she was the chief meteorologist at WTNH ABC 8 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Erika joined WTNH from WSHM-TV CBS 3 in Springfield, MA where she was a meteorologist.

She has also worked as a meteorologist at WSHM CBS 3 in Springfield, Massachusetts; freelanced in the San Francisco Bay area in California; and got her start as a meteorologist at KRNV-TV NBC 4 in Reno, Nevada.

Aside from weather, Erika's first on-camera job was as a fashion reporter for Event Links (a local show based in New York City). She has worked for MTV, as the resident fashion expert on the quirky make-over show "Trailer Fabulous", co-host for the nationally syndicated Latin entertainment news show "Latination" co-host of Style Network's "Dress My Nest", red-carpet correspondent for numerous fashion week events, a host on musicplustv.com, co-host of Purple News Network, and a lifestyle correspondent for Pepsi.com.

Prior to her on camera experience, Erika worked as a wardrobe stylist for television and print in New York City, and has styled celebrities and models, as well as numerous ad campaigns.

A native of New Jersey, Erika began her college career at NYU, but completed her degree in Broadcast Journalism with an emphasis in Production at Santa Monica College.

While hosting television shows, Erika realized that she wanted to start working in a field that combined her two passions of math and science. She then went back to school, and earned a B.S. in Meteorology from Mississippi State University.

Erika is a member of The National Association of Hispanic Journalists, The Society for Professional Journalists, League of United Latin American Citizens, and SESAC.
