WABG-TV & WXVT-TV, both of Greenville, MS, will be doing something that Yahoo! TV writer Mike Krumboltz says "would probably make Edward R. Morrow scream into the nearest throw pillow."

Both stations participated in the upcoming TruTV series "Breaking Greenville," which goes inside the breaking news of both stations.

As TruTV describes the series, when a spunky young reporter from Connecticut lands her first big job in a small-town news market, an unexpected shake-up occurs.

The show follows a group of local anchors as they compete for the top spot in the game. The character-driven docu-soap will spotlight the playful — and at times cut-throat — rivalry between two local news stations and the dynamic newscasters who are determined to take their jobs seriously, even when some of the news they cover is less than serious.

Reporters seeking big stories are assigned to cover changes in local trash routes instead. A weatherman is encouraged to showcase his caboose on camera for the "ladies" at home. An anchor goes crawling behind the desk when her teleprompter fails. And the news director can't, for the life of her, stop an anchor from saying "awesome" on camera.

You might think that the stations reputations might take a hit over this, but it's apparent they don't think so. The trailer for the show is currently displayed prominently on WABG's website.

Not that it even matters... viewers don't have any other choices in the area.

WABG (ABC) is also the FOX affiliate, which is on its digital sub-channel. The NBC affiliate (which does not offer local news) is low-power station WNBD-LD which is owned by the same company, Commonwealth Broadcasting Group, Inc.

WXVT, the CBS affiliate, is owned by H3 Communications, LLC but is operated by  Commonwealth Broadcasting Group.

Take a look at the trailer below, then shake your head while you think WTF?!

The series premieres this December.
