WLNE-TV ABC 6 Good Morning Providence and noon anchor Doreen Scanlon is expecting her second child, and is currently out on medical leave due to the pregnancy the station has announced.

Doreen suffers from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe condition of pregnancy that some women experience that causes near-constant nausea.

"We want to share some exciting news" ABC 6 News said on Facebook. "Our colleague, Doreen Scanlon, is expecting her second child!" The station posted the statement on Facebook to explain why Doreen has not been on the air. 

"We want to congratulate Doreen and her family and hope she can return to the anchor desk here on Good Morning Providence soon!" the station said. Doreen is married to WJAR-TV NBC 10 investigative reporter Parker Gavigan.

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and electrolyte disturbance. 

Most women have some nausea or vomiting (morning sickness), particularly during the first 3 months of pregnancy. 

Women with hyperemesis gravidarum have extreme nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. It can cause a weight loss of more than 5% of body weight.

During her first pregnancy in May 2012, Doreen was on bed rest, and spent 8 to 10 hours a day receiving medicine and nutrients through an IV for both her and the baby. She spent the duration of of her pregnancy on medical leave, and returned to work in February 2013 shortly after giving birth to a healthy baby girl.
