Mike LaCrosse has been promoted to weekend anchor at WLNE-TV ABC 6 in Providence.

“Mike has strong investigative skills and a knack for compelling story telling. He’s an excellent addition to our weekend team,” said ABC 6 news director Nic Moye.

“I am honored and excited to be joining Meteorologist Chelsea Priest and sports anchor Nick Coit on the ABC6 News weekend team. It’ll be a real privilege to bring the people of southern New England what they need to know to get through their hectic weekends,” said Mike in a statement.

Mike LaCrosse joined ABC 6 in September of 2013 as a multimedia journalist from WGGB in Springfield, MA. He also interned at WCVB-TV in Boston while in college.

Mike has been a part of covering some of the region's biggest stories.  On April 19th 2013, he reported from the scene of a massive police search for a terror suspect in Watertown, Mass.  He also reported from the bombings at the Boston Marathon.  On June 1st 2011, Mike was one of the first local journalists on the ground in Springfield following the devastating tornado.  His reporting on the storm was featured that night on "World News Tonight with Dianne Sawyer."  Mike was the only local TV reporter in New York City when the verdict was handed down in the trial of the men charged will killing reputed Springfield mob boss Al Bruno.  He has also earned an AP Award for his work with the ABC40 "Bully Busters" segment.

Mike graduated from UMass Amherst magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree with concentrations in both journalism and political science.

Mike is a native of Waltham, Mass.

When not covering the news, he enjoys trying out new restaurants, watching Boston sports teams and running.
