Former WABI-TV 5 and The CW sports co-anchor Nick Coit was hoping to find a job in a bigger market when he left the Bangor, ME station in December after his two-year contract expired.

He did.

Coit is the weekend sports anchor and sports reporter at WLNE-TV/ABC6 in Providence, R.I.

“When I left WABI, this was exactly the type of step I was looking for,” said the 25-year-old Coit, who started last month. “I never expected to get a job this good. I was lucky enough to land it.

“It has been tremendous,” added Coit, who has covered a number of high school and college events including Providence College basketball and the state high school basketball tournaments.

He also will get to cover the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

The Emerson College (Mass.) graduate learned about the job from college friend Nicole Gerber, a former reporter and morning anchor at WVII ABC 7 and Fox 22 in Bangor. Gerber is a news reporter at WLNE-TV/ABC6.

“I think she put in a good word for me. I had a couple of interviews, got the job on a Tuesday and started on a Thursday,” said Coit, whose first on-air gig was at WABI.

He previously had worked as a sports producer at WFXT-TV Fox 25 in Dedham, Mass.

Coit said another positive has been getting to work with the station’s sports director, Ken Bell.

“He is a legend in the market,” said Coit.

“We are excited to add Nick to the ABC6 sports team,” WLNE-TV/ABC6 News Director Nic Moye said in a news release. “Nick’s passion for sports and his desire to report on stories that go beyond the scores add a unique dimension to our sports coverage.”
