After less than a year at the helm, Chris Geiger has left Tribune Media's FOX CT (WTIC-TV) and WCCT-TV (CW) in Hartford, CT.

“He left on his own volition,” said Jessica Bellucci, Tribune Media’s  Director of Communications  about the departure, who said the staff was advised Tuesday that Geiger was leaving.

Geiger came to Tribune from Sinclair Broadcast Group (formerly Barrington Broadcasting Group) where he was President and CEO of the company’s Syracuse media properties including WSTM/NBC, WTVH/CBS, WSTQ/CW, CNY Central Digital, a 24-hour news broadcast, and CNYcentral.com. Geiger, who spent 16 years with Sinclair/Barrington serving in positions of increasing responsibility, created and developed the CNY Central brand as the largest stand-alone broadcast media operation in New York State, outside of New York City.

In April, upon being named VP/GM, Tribune COO Lynda King said “Chris has extensive knowledge of all aspects of managing multiple television stations within a market. He has a successful track record of revenue growth and strong leadership skills and will be a great asset for Tribune’s stations in Hartford.”

He replaced Rich Graziano, who became GM of Tribune’s New York CW affiliate WPIX.

Geiger has received numerous industry awards, including the Ad Council’s Silver Bell for Public Service and several New York State Broadcasters Association Awards. In 2005 he was named one of Syracuse’s 40 Under 40 Professionals for his business accomplishments and community involvement.

“I am excited to join the iconic Tribune Company and their stations in Hartford, CT.  I’m looking forward to becoming a part of the Hartford community and leading WTIC and WCCT to even greater success,” said Geiger in a statement in April.

It sounds like he lost the excitment. It's interesting to note that while Geiger changed his Twitter handle and bio, his profile picture is from his time in Syracuse. Though, he has not send a tweet since October of last year.

Geiger has also served on the Board of Directors of Centerstate CEO, Central New York’s Economic Development Group and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York, most recently as President.

Geiger holds a Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the University of Virginia, which he attended on a golf scholarship.
