WTNH-TV Storm Team 8 meteorologist Erika Martin is leaving the station, she says.

"Well CT, this is it" WTNH meteorologist Erika said, "My very last forecast for News 8!"

Erika joined News 8's Good Morning Connecticut Weekend in May of 2012, and moved to weeknights and became Chief Meteorologist in October of 2012.

"It is a bittersweet goodbye, because I love CT so much and am honored to forecast for you" Erika said, "I am going to follow my dreams and grow as a meteorologist."

Erika is originally from Rocky Hill, Connecticut and grew up in New York as well as Massachusetts where she attended one of New England's most prestigious boarding schools.

Erika says she grew up watching WTNH and says she remembers watching coverage of Hurricane Gloria in 1985 at her grandmother's house, until the power went out.

Erika joined WTNH from WSHM-TV CBS 3 in Springfield, MA where she was a meteorologist.

She has also freelanced in the San Francisco Bay area, and got her start as a meteorologist at KRNV-TV NBC 4 in Reno, NV.

Aside from weather, Erika's first on-camera job was as a fashion reporter for Event Links (a local show based in New York City). She has worked for MTV, as the resident fashion expert on the quirky make-over show "Trailer Fabulous", co-host for the nationally syndicated Latin entertainment news show "Latination" co-host of Style Network's "Dress My Nest", red-carpet correspondent for numerous fashion week events, a host on musicplustv.com, co-host of Purple News Network, and a lifestyle correspondent for Pepsi.com.

Prior to her on camera experience, Erika worked as a wardrobe stylist for television and print in New York City, and has styled celebrities and models, as well as numerous ad campaigns.

Erika began her college career at NYU, but completed her degree in Broadcast Journalism with an emphasis in Production at Santa Monica College.

While hosting television shows, Erika realized that she wanted to start working in a field that combined her two passions of math and science. She then went back to school, and earned a B.S. in Meteorology from Mississippi State University. She is currently preparing for Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal, and has also been accepted into a Masters program in Meteorology and began classes this fall.

Erika is a member of The National Association of Hispanic Journalists, The Society for Professional Journalists, League of United Latin American Citizens, and SESAC.

Erika says that she will be posting her new station and new opportunities in the coming days, and that she is going to "show the world how we do it here in CT!"
