Audrey Cox, a part-time reporter at WMUR-TV ABC 9 in Manchester, NH, has been charged with drunk driving for allegedly hitting and injuring a 79-year-old pedestrian.

At about 7 pm on September 25, Hampton Police officers were called to Ocean Blvd. and Winnacunnet Road where the elderly woman had been hit by a car. Witnesses pointed out a 2011 Jeep Patriot allegedly driven by Cox that had been involved in the crash. Cox, a resident of Lowell, MA, was arrested at the scene and charged with operating under the influence and reckless conduct. She is scheduled to be arraigned on October 6 after being released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail.

Cox's attorney, Andrew Cotrupi, released a statement, saying: "It was a regrettable accident, and we are confident when all the evidence is reviewed that alcohol did not play a role in this accident."

“We are very concerned about the well being of the victim and grateful that it appears that the injuries are not serious,” Cotrupi said. “We are looking forward to having the facts come out so that people will have a better understanding of how the accident occurred.”

A veteran reporter, Cox began her career at WMUR in 1994 covering stories for the Seacoast Bureau in Portsmouth. She started anchoring the weekend newscasts at WMUR in 2000, and left the station in 2005 to become a general assignment reporter for cable station News 12 New Jersey. She later worked as an associate producer at Fox News Channel before returning to WMUR in 2011 as a fill-in reporter and anchor.

She most recently became the newest addition to New Hampshire Chronicle, the Hearst stations evening news magazine program.

WMUR reports that Cox was not working at the time of the accident, and that she is on leave pending the outcome of the case.
