WCVB Channel 5 has won top honors from two prestigious media organizations

WCVB was named 2017 “Station of the Year” by the national Gabriel Awards, and the station won four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for "Overall Excellence," "Best Newscast,” “Investigative Reporting,” and “Social Media” in the Large Market Television division.

This year’s Gabriel Award for “Station of the Year” marks WCVB’s 20th win in this category and the station’s fifth win in eight years. This year’s RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards celebrates the eighth year in a row that WCVB has received top honors in both the "Overall Excellence" and "Newscast" categories.

The 2017 Gabriel and Edward R. Murrow honors arrive on the heels of several other prestigious industry awards. Earlier this month WCVB was recognized with eight National Headliner Awards, and was by far the most awarded local station in the country and was the only New England television station to be honored in this year's 83rd annual awards. And in March, WCVB was awarded a prestigious national Gracie Award by The Alliance for Women in Media (AWM).

“Being recognized with the acclaimed Gabriel and the Edward R. Murrow Awards is an amazing achievement,” said WCVB President and General Manager Bill Fine. “It is a testament to the mission that our entire team strives for every day – outstanding coverage of local news on our many platforms, steadfast commitment to the community, and distinctive local programming,”
