Meteorologist Nelly Carreño has left NBCUniversal's New England Cable News in Boston, New England One has learned.

Nelly had been the mid-day meteorologist for the station, and also appeared on Telemundo Boston.

"I knew this day would come... but it doesn’t make saying goodbye any easier" Nelly said on her Instagram page. "Six years ago I arrived in Boston without knowing ONE single person & will leave loving so many wonderful people here. This was my last week at NECN. I loved my job, this city and especially the viewers... but there is only one thing that I love more... and that is my family who is in Dallas. Those of you that know me well knew that watching my parents get older from afar & missing my nieces & nephews birthdays was taking a toll. I expressed my desire to go home earlier this year to NECN, and they understood. I leave with nothing but positive memories of my days at the station and wish them the best in their upcoming launch. Regarding my future plans... I am excited & looking at many possibilities and will let you know as soon as I can where I land" she said.

Staff at necn received an email from the stations vice president of technology Keith Barbaria with the news of Nelly's departure, which is standard when anyone leaves the station.

"Nelly Carreño is no longer an employee at NBCUniversal and does not have access to the facility" the email said. "If Nelly visits, she will need to be registered as a guest and follow our guest policy."

A three-time Emmy Award-winner, Nelly joined necn in 2010 from NBCUniversal sister stations WSNS-TV Telemundo Chicago where she was a meteorologist/entertainment anchor, and WMAQ-TV NBC 5 where she was a fill-in meteorologist.

Nelly has also worked at AccuWeather, and three televisions stations in Texas - KXTX-TV in Dallas, KVII-TV in Amarillo, and KTXS-TV in Abilene.

A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Nelly was raised in Texas and is a 1999 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where she studied broadcast journalism. She also attained her certificate of broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University in 2010.
