First on New England One - In one of the first changes since Cox Media Group took over WFXT-TV FOX 25, Doug "VB" Goudie was let go after this morning's newscast.
“Their philosophy of news was very different, it was nothing I could do, nothing I wanted to do, so by mutual agreement I’m no longer working at Fox 25” Goudie told the Boston Herald.
Goudie was the popular "commentator" on FOX25 Morning News for the past 11 years.
His daily opinions pushed the boundaries of a regular news show format, and were often controversial which is not within the way Cox runs its news departments.
“I had a very good run and I’m very proud of what I did there,” he said. “I worked with great people.”
VB's daily "Let It Rip" segments gave him the go ahead to weigh-in on everything from struggling politicians to hot button issues like immigration and pay raises on Beacon Hill.
Cox Media Group is known for its hard news and investigative pieces, and tends to not have a bias or political commentary associated with its newscasts, only the facts. The new station owners “aren’t big on opinions” Goudie said.
Polito saw the writing on the wall and left to re-join WTAG radio in Worcester, MA where he worked as the morning host before joining FOX 25.
Sources at the station say staff were briefed after the morning news, but nothing official has come out of the station. Goudie's bio is also still up at myfoxboston.com.
Goudie joined FOX 25 from the Howie Carr radio program where he was a producer. He also recieved his nickname ("Virgin Boy" or "V.B.") during that time by Howie Carr.
Radio talk show host Howie Carr announced Thursday on Twitter that Goudie would be re-joining him in a yet to be announced radio show.
