David Bienick joining Bostonb's WCVB ABC 5 as a general assignment reporter.

David joins WCVB from Hearst Television's KCRA-TV in Sacramento where he has been a reporter for sixteen years covering many high profile stories, and he was assigned to report from Boston on the manhunt for the Boston marathon bombers.

"We are well aware of David's excellent work not only at our sister-station KCRA, but also first hand when he reported with the NewsCenter 5 team from the stand-off in Watertown with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev," said WCVB president and general manager Bill Fine. "His breadth of experience also includes covering everything from California wild fires to political conventions and presidential primaries, and we look forward to having him join our talented news team."

"David's many years of experience, as well as the range of stories he's broken and covered, make him an outstanding addition to the NewsCenter 5 team," said WCVB news director Andrew Vrees. "We know he will hit the ground running and that his reporting style will resonate well with our viewers."

"I've dreamed of working at WCVB for years. The station's reputation for news excellence is widely recognized and well deserved," David said in a statement. "I saw that firsthand while in Boston to cover the search for the marathon bombing suspects, and I look forward to working with this team of journalists who are among the best in the business."

David has more than twenty years of journalism experience, most recently at KCRA. While there, he covered high-profile stories like Arnold Schwarzenegger's election as governor, two hurricanes, the U.S. Supreme Court arguments on same-sex marriage, and the battle to save Sacramento's NBA franchise. Before that, he was an anchor and reporter at WPTZ in Burlington, VT/Plattsburg, NY where he covered everything from Quebec's separation referendum to Hillary Clinton's campaign for U.S. Senate. And, it was at WPTZ where he worked with WCVB's EyeOpener meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon.

A native of upstate New York, David graduated from Syracuse University with a BS degree in broadcast journalism, international relations, and French. Bienick speaks fluent French and earned a Master's degree from Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg, France. He enjoys biking, running, swimming, and weight-lifting. He, his wife, and their twin 9-year-old sons look forward to being close to family and friends in Boston and New England.

David starts at WCVB on July 13.
