Telemundo Boston / WNEU today announced that Pedro Castro-Amaré has been named Sports Anchor for Noticiero Telemundo Boston at 6 PM and 11 PM.

Castro-Amaré, who will be WNEU’s first sports anchor since the station launched its local newscasts in August 2015, will join news anchor Jose Rivera Adrovet, weather anchor Cecy Gutierrez and a dynamic team of reporters to deliver the latest local breaking news and information that is of interest to the Hispanic community in the Boston Area. In addition to his new role as sports anchor, Castro-Amaré will be a contributor on Red Sox Report Fridays at 5:30 PM.

“The Boston area is one of the most dynamic sports markets in the country and Pedro’s positive energy, coupled with his palpable passion for sports, will ensure that our viewers receive the best sports content and coverage possible,” said Kenny Plotnik, Vice President of News, Telemundo Boston.

“I am extremely excited and honored to join Telemundo Boston as the station’s first sports anchor,” said Castro-Amaré. “It is an exciting time in my career and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue working with Telemundo, especially in Boston, where fans are passionate about their home teams. I’m looking forward to living every exciting sports moment with the Hispanic community in Boston and making Boston my new home.”

Castro-Amaré joins Telemundo Boston from sister-station Telemundo 51 Miami / WSCV, where he worked as the weekend sports anchor for Noticiero Telemundo 51 and as co-host of Puro Beisbol (Pure Baseball), a sports special dedicated to Major League Baseball’s spring training season. Before joining Telemundo, Castro-Amaré worked as a radio announcer and news editor at Univision America network, which aired its radio broadcasts across various markets, including Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago, among others.

A native of Venezuela, Castro-Amaré earned his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications Audiovisual Journalism from the Universidad Central de Caracas in Venezuela.
