"As the ownership ramps up the NBC Boston channel, my skill set, talents, and background are different from the priorities for NBC Boston, and as Coach Belichick would say, it is what it is" Peter said in a statement on Facebook.

"It's been a fantastic 8-year ride. I will always be deeply thankful for the opportunity I was given as a print guy to reinvent myself as a TV Newsman, and profoundly grateful to have worked with so many superb, positive people at NECN who put their hearts into producing the highest-quality journalism they can. I'm also so thankful to so many people who helped me and my producers put together stories and interviews, spoke on camera, and let us into their workplaces and homes and lives to tell their stories. I'm excited about tomorrow."

During his time at NECN, Peter reported each night for NECN Business and other NECN news programs. He also hosted NECN's CEO Corner interview show, and appeared each Sunday on This Week in Business.

While at NECN, Peter has reported extensively on the rollout of casino gambling in Massachusetts, residential and commercial real estate developments and trends, aviation and rail transportation, and job market and economic trends, and filled in as a business anchor.

He also reported NECN's weekly Money Saving Mondays consumer advice feature and was a frequent host or panel moderator for business and economic forums.

Peter came to NECN following two decades with The Boston Globe, where he edited several editions of The Globe 100 and covered the Massachusetts State House, Big Dig, Boston Harbor cleanup, Boston City Hall, and business beats including airlines, energy, telecommunications, and technology.

Peter is a native of Boston and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1986.
