There haven't been many on-air changes yet at the now Cox Media Group owned FOX 25, but that may be changing.

The station has posted 6 positions on its website today, in addition to the 3 that were already there.

Two things caught our eye that hint to changes coming at the station - which may not be a bad thing.

Is Cox adding more news to FOX 25? It would seem as though it is. Boston is now the largest market where Cox owns a television station, and it is also the market where there are some news "voids" to fill.

Before the deal to acquire WFXT and WHBQ in Memphis, TN was closed, CMG owned 3 Fox affiliated stations. In addition to WFXT & WHBQ CMG now has 4 Fox affiliates, also owning WFOX Jacksonville, FL and KOKI in Oklahoma City, OK.

Currently, FOX 25 is the only Cox Fox affiliate without a noon news broadcast (we are excluding WFOX because it is a duopoly with WJAX CBS 47, and the noon news airs there.) KOKI has an hour broadcast at noon, while WHBQ produces a 30 minute newscast. There was also a 30 minute noon newscast on KTVU in San Francisco, which Fox Television Stations now owns.

Also missing from the FOX 25 schedule is weekend morning news. The other 3 Fox affiliates all have weekend morning coverage, as did KTVU while Cox owned them.

Back to what caught my eye...

One of the positions that was posted today was for a Anchor/Reporter.

It states "It's a new era and exciting time at WFXT, the Fox affiliate in Boston, which currently produces 52 ½ hours of news each week.  Cox Media Group recently acquired this previously Fox-owned station and is adding staff to the newsroom.  As part of the newsroom positions being added, WFXT Fox 25 is in search of Anchor/Reporters for station newscasts."

So the station is looking for anchors and reporters, plural, to add staff to the newsroom.

So dust off those resumes, and tweak your reels because Cox 25 is getting ready to expand.

The second thing that caught my eye was the position of sports director that was posted today. On September 2, we told you that Butch Stearns was back at FOX 25... but it was unknown whether he had returned to his old position or was just filling in until it was filled after Brendan Fitzgerald left for ESPNU.

As an aside, most business acquisition contracts would have forbid Fox Television Stations from entering into an employment contract with an employee earning over $100k, and put off any such decisions until Cox Media Group officially took over the station.

Judging from the positive responce that Butch got when he returned to FOX 25, Cox would be smart in keeping him in that position.
