WCVB-TV NewsCenter 5 will broadcast live from Union Station in Worcester, MA on Thursday and feature several stories from the city during its newscasts.

The coverage is part of a new "5 on..." series covering different cities in Massachusetts with stories that impact all residents.

The coverage includes live broadcasts of NewsCenter 5 EyeOpener, Noon and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The 7:30 p.m. "Chronicle" broadcast also focuses on Worcester.

The station will feature stories on downtown development, heroin addiction, Worcester Vocational Technical High School and the city's libraries, among others.

Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty says the Bay State's second largest city has a lot to feel good about, including hosting corporate headquarters, welcoming a new influx of students, and enjoying 7 million dollars' worth of sprucing up in the downtown. Add to that newly constructed loft apartments and a rejuvenated theater district, and the Mayor may be on to something.

On Thursday night, as part of WCVB's day long 5 on Worcester coverage, the 7:30 p.m. "Chronicle" broadcast also focuses on Worcester. Anthony Everett reports on signs of revival in Worcester. And he discovers why President Obama chose Worcester Tech as the only high school graduation he spoke at last year.

Several anchors, reporters and WCVB employees will also be doing volunteer work in the city throughout the day.
