Shannon Hegy is the main co-anchor at WPRI-TV CBS 12/WNAC-TV FOX 64 in Providence, RI. She co-anchors the 5pm, 6pm & 11pm newscasts on WPRI; and the 6:30pm & 10pm newscasts on WNAC.
Shannon came to WPRI in 2013 from WGGB-TV ABC 40 in Springfield, MA where she was most recently the station’s main anchor, helming the evening newscasts alongside Dave Madsen. She started her 6 years at WGGB at the assignment desk, and worked her way up to reporter and eventually the anchor desk.
A native of Connecticut, Shannon is a graduate of Hofstra University on Long Island, NY where she studied broadcast journalism.
1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
I have an iPhone 6. My husband and I are big foodies, so I love using Yelp to help us navigate through all the delicious food Rhode Island has to offer.
2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
Feature stories are my favorite. They won’t lead a newscast, but they give a voice to people and topics that may not otherwise get attention.
My least favorite are child abuse and animal cruelty.
3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
Working with animals in some capacity.
4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Care Bears.
5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
I love to cook and am always trying out new ingredients and new recipes.
6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I would love to go to Thailand, but I hate flying, and can’t work up the courage to get on a flight that long.
7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
Robin Meade. She’s one of my favorite anchors and I’d love to pick her brain.
8. Do you collect anything?
Ticket stubs from movies, concerts, shows, etc.
9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
They’re my favorite songs to run to: “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars, “So Good” by B.O.B. and “Everybody Loves Me” by One Republic.
10. What is one of your favorite quotes?

11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
I tore my ACL and MCL while skiing last year and needed surgery. I had to be out of work for six weeks and had to put my very active lifestyle on hold. Over a year later I’m finally back to running, golfing and doing all the things I love, but it was a lot of hard work getting here.
