Nelly Carreño is a three-time Emmy Award-winning meteorologist at New England Cable News.

Nelly came to NECN in 2010 from NBCUniversal sister stations WSNS-TV Telemundo Chicago where she was a meteorologist/entertainment anchor, and WMAQ-TV NBC 5 where she was a fill-in meteorologist.

Nelly has also worked at AccuWeather, and three televisions stations in Texas - KXTX-TV in Dallas, KVII-TV in Amarillo, and KTXS-TV in Abilene.

A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Nelly was raised in Texas and is a 1999 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where she studied broadcast journalism. She also attained her certificate of broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University in 2010.

1. What kind of phone do you have, and what are your favorite apps?
 I have an I phone 5 …some of my favorite Apps: NECN weather App (Seriously it is very good!) Wardrobe Journal, Trivia Crack, MyNetDiary, Netflix App

2. Favorite and least favorite news topics to cover (besides violent crime)?
 Weather, Current Events, Fashion, Politics

3. If you weren't working in TV news, what would you be doing?
 I would be involved in some type of communications –based job, like radio, public relations, marketing…

4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
 Inspector Gadget, The Smurfs & The Care Bears

5. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
 When I have a free moment I try to call my family in Texas, or if possible I make or buy  a cup of coffee or I check my social media

6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
 I have always wanted to go to Cambodia, Egypt & the Greek Islands!

7. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
 The Dalai Lama, Matt Lauer, Oprah, Nelson Mandela, Pope Francis, Michael Jordan and my family :-)

8. Do you collect anything?
 No

9. What are the top 3 played songs on your iPod?
 I had to check on this one & I was surprised : Take Me out by Franz Ferdinand, Out of My League by Fitz & The Tantrums & Cruise by Florida Georgia Line

10. What is one of your favorite quotes?

11. What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
 I was recently very sick and doctors at first couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me…fortunately I am well now, but it reminded me that you can’t take for granted your health & that each day I’m alive & well is a gift!
