Beginning Monday, August 24th, Southern New England television viewers will get a fresh start everyday with award-winning journalist, Alison Bologna. Bologna will co-anchor NBC 10 News Sunrise beginning at 4:30 am with veteran morning news anchor, Frank Coletta.
“We are so pleased to announce Alison’s move to morning news,” said Chris Lanni, News Director. “Alison has been a strong part of our evening newscasts for years and we feel this move will only enhance what is already the number-one rated AM newscast in the region.”
Bologna formerly anchored NBC 10 News at 5:30 with Gene Valicenti, NBC 10 News at 7 with Dan Jaehnig, and reported with the NBC 10 Money Watchers team. Readers of Rhode Island Monthly magazine once again voted her the top female reporter in the region. She will continue to be the main fill-in anchor in the evenings as needed.
“Frank Coletta is one of the most respected journalists in our region, and I’m honored to join him on the anchor desk,” said Bologna. “The decision to move to the morning show comes after much thought with my family and the ability to dive even deeper into my community work all over the state and in Southeastern Massachusetts.”
Bologna joins an award-winning news team that includes long-time anchor Frank Coletta, meteorologist Kelly Love and traffic and technology reporter Molly O’Brien. “We look forward to raising a coffee cup and welcoming Alison to the sunrise show,” said Frank Coletta, Anchor. “Her energy and enthusiasm will be a welcome addition to our stand-out team.”
Prior to NBC 10, Bologna anchored in Boston at Fox 25 News and produced undercover reports for "Dateline NBC" as one of the network's youngest producers in New York City. She has received many honors and awards for her journalism work, including an Emmy Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award, two Associated Press Awards, a Gracie Allen Award, an Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, and two Clarion Awards.
She graduated on the dean's list from Harvard University in 2015 with a master's degree in English. Before that she graduated with honors from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism outside of Chicago.
In her free time, she enjoys teaching yoga at her studio and running a non-profit organization she founded, which provides free yoga outreach programs for adults living with developmental disabilities, veterans, children in schools, shelters and prisons and men and women in recovery. She currently serves as a trustee at the Old Slater Mill Museum in Pawtucket and on the board of trustees for the Pawtucket Boys and Girls Club and at The Providence Center.
