Employees at Hartford's WTIC-TV FOX Connecticut will vote on whether or not to join a union next month.

Photographers, editors, assignment desk editors, and on-air talent at the Tribune Broadcasting owned station have filed a petition for a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) election, requesting representation by The National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians–Communications Workers of America (NABET-CWA).

The group of employees has been meeting for the past 6 months getting ready to organize and collected cards from 74% of the new unit. The cards were filed with the NLRB on January 12th and the election will be held on February 18th.

The NABET-CWA represents more than 7,000 workers in broadcasting and related industries. Its parent union CWA has 600,000 members in telecommunications, newspapers, manufacturing, state and local government, nursing, policing and many other fields.

The union already represents employees at WFSB-TV CBS 3 in Rocky Hill and WTNH-TV ABC 8 in New Haven.
