WRGB-TV and WCWN-TV general manager Vincent Nelson announced today that Stephen Richards will be joining WRGB CBS 6 News as news director.

Richards most recently held the position of news director at WHEC-TV in Rochester, NY. Under his leadership, WHEC news received several Edward R. Murrow Awards, which are given by the broadcast television news industry to stations which demonstrate exemplary standards in news reporting. During his tenure with WHEC, Mr. Richards also served as assistant news director and managing editor, among other positions. "I'm honored to join the CBS 6 news team. The station has a long and rich history of serving the upstate New York communities.  I am eager to continue such excellence in reporting the news to viewers in the Capital Region”, Richards stated today.

“We are fortunate to have a person of Steve’s professionalism and range of experience joining our management team” said Nelson. “I am confident that Steve will be a solid leader and coach for our news team, and I look forward to working with him as we continue to grow our audience across all screens, and build the news station of the future here at CBS 6.”

Richards is a gratuate of Herkimer County Community College where he attained a AS in radio and television, and State University of New York College at Brockport where he attained a BS in communications.

Richards will begin in his new position with CBS 6 News next week.
