Katherine Underwood joined New England Cable News earlier this month. She comes to NECN from WGME-TV CBS 13 News in Portland, ME where she spent two years as a general assignment reporter. During that time Katherine actually spent many days in New Hampshire reporting on events that impacted families across New England, including the disappearance of Abigail Hernandez, the months-long search for the North Conway teen, her mysterious homecoming, and the arrest of Hernandez's alleged kidnapper, Nathaniel Kibby.

Previously, Katherine worked as a reporter for FOX 23 in Albany, NY. While at FOX23, Katherine felt privileged to be able to tell the stories of those Upstate New York residents who suffered great loss as Tropical Storm Irene ravaged the Capital Region and floods wiped out entire neighborhoods. She and her photographer became stranded as the eye of the storm came right over Schoharie County on that fateful Sunday afternoon. Katherine's coverage of the storm and of the recovery efforts in the months following became national interest and was recognized by the Associated Press.

Katherine started her broadcast journalism career at WENY-TV in Elmira, NY where she was the 11pm news anchor, and also a reporter.

Before breaking into news, Katherine covered the Boston Celtics, the Red Sox and the New England Patriots as a freelance web reporter for Comcast Sports Network in Boston.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Latin American Studies. When she wasn’t reporting for the college television station, she was on the sidelines as a member of the UConn Cheerleading Team.

Katherine is a native of southern New Hampshire, where her family still resides. She is thrilled to be back home in New Hampshire covering the stories that matter to the people in her home state.
