WCVB NewsCenter 5's Phil Lipof, who recently suffered a life threatening illness due to a reaction with antibiotics, is back off the air after a setback in his recovery.

He took to WCVB.com to explain the situation to viewers.

"I'm not a control freak, but... Not having total control over my body, sort of makes me feel like one!" he said.

Doctors at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center go Phil's health back on track, and have been treating him with Prednisone to treat an inflamed liver that the alergic reaction caused.

"When I was on a lower dose, I was itching to and felt like I could go back to work" he said, and so he did on September 7, nearly a month after his illness started.

By the end of his week back at work, his liver enzyme numbers began to climb, as his doses of the steroid treating it went down.

"I had no idea just how much my body still needed to heal.   That week was a struggle. I was beyond thrilled to be back at work, but I was very fatigued and in some pain. When the inflammation began again (which my doctors said could happen with a case as severe as mine), I decided I needed to really listen to my body."

Phil will be off again this week, as his doctors try to figure out the best balance of meds it will take for his recovery.

"It's not a precise science, because everyone reacts differently. I have complete faith in my doctors and really do expect to be back to work soon."

Phil also says that "My wife Juli, my kids Daniella and Dylan and of course Rosie, our dog, have been the best medicine!"

We wish Phil the best, and hope for his full recovery soon!
