Bree Sison is joining WBRC FOX 6 in Birmingham, Alabama as an anchor, New England One has learned.

Bree Sison is joining WBRC FOX 6 in Birmingham, Alabama as an anchor, New England One has learned.

Bree is joining the station as a co-anchor of the stations new weekday 4pm newscast that launches September 12th on the Raycom Media station, in addition to other evening newscasts.

“I've worked for over a decade hoping to find an opportunity like this at a solid station with solid leaders so focused on serving their viewers" Bree said in a statement sent to station staffers. "I felt an instant connection to this team. The South is in my blood & SEC football in my soul. Moving back to Alabama, closer to family, & out of the brutal New England winters is a cherry on top. I can't wait to get started" she said.

“When I met Bree, I knew we had a winner and I wanted her on our team,” said Collin R. Gaston, Vice President and General Manager of WBRC FOX6 News. “She is a sincere, hard-working, thoughtful journalist, as well as a caring wife and daughter. Bree will be a great addition to our anchor team as we introduce a brand new M-F 4pm newscast on Monday, September 12th.”

“Bree will be a tremendous asset to our community. Her experience, love of journalism and storytelling abilities are invaluable. We are excited for her to join the WBRC Team and serve Central Alabama with us,” added Shannon Maze, News Director of WBRC FOX6 News.

Joining Bree on the new 4pm newscast will be co-anchors Sarah Verser and Beth Shelburne, as well as Jill Gilardi on traffic and weather.

Bree joins WBRC from WBZ CBS 4 in Boston. She joined WBZ in April 2012 as a reporter and anchor, and was primarily assigned to weekday mornings.

"I've worked with some of the most talented photographers, editors, producers, reporters and anchors in the country" Bree told New England One when she left WBZ in April.

"Home is where you make it and the work we've been able to do together the past 4 years has made Boston an incredible home. I've never been more proud to live anywhere than I was the day the Red Sox World Series parade reclaimed Boylston Street. I've never been more humbled by the people I've interviewed than I was by the people who opened up their souls to us, sharing their mental health experiences, in "Matters of the Mind." This market is special and it's a privilege to cover it. I'm excited by what's ahead and happy to finish out my time at 'BZ with the morning crew I love so much" she said.

In her four years at WBZ, Bree has been part of a National Emmy Award winning broadcast live from Newtown, CT. She also contributed to the station's coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings which was honored with a Peabody Award and an Alfred I. duPont Award.

She was also nominated for a New England Emmy for Best Sports Reporter for her work covering the Red Sox World Series win. She has also been recognized by the Massachusetts Providers Council for her series on mental health, “Matters of the Mind.”

Bree came to WBZ from WEAR ABC 3 in Pensacola, FL where she was the morning news anchor. During her time there, Bree covered the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill from the ground and from the air. Field anchoring live for nearly two months straight, she kept viewers up to date on where the oil was and what the Coast Guard and BP were doing to protect the beach.

Before joining WEAR, Bree was a morning anchor and general assignment reporter at WMBB ABC 13 in Panama City, FL. While working in this small market, Bree says that she developed a range of skills that put her well ahead of other journalists. Working as a "one person band," Bree learned to write, shoot, and edit her own stories. She also gained experience with investigative reporting, anchoring, producing, and posting stories to the Internet. For her versatility, the Florida Associated Press recognized her in 2008 for Individual Achievement.

Bree began her television career in Virginia where she worked on local cable access programming in Richmond and Chesapeake. She also spent time as an intern at WTVR CBS 6 in Richmond.

A native of Norfolk, VA, Bree is a 2012 graduate of The George Washington University where she earned a Masters degree in professional studies and political management. She is also a 2006 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in both political science and mass communications.

Bree starts at WBRC on September 6.
