Steve Aveson has joined Media General station KRON-TV 4 in San Francisco as a news anchor, the station has announced.

Steve will join co-anchor Pam Moore, who once anchored at WBZ in Boston, to anchor the 6pm, 8pm, 10pm and 11pm newscasts on the station.

“Steve’s first day is May 2 and he will begin co-anchoring and reporting starting as early as May 5”, said KRON News Director Aaron Pero. “He will co-anchor with Pam Moore on the 6, 8 and 11 p.m. newscasts. Starting Monday, May 1, he will also co-anchor the new KRON4 News At Ten.”

Steve joins KRON from New England Cable News where he had been a news anchor since joining the regional cable news station in 2010.

Although Steve is from San Francisco, he has deep ties to New England television news, spending most of his professional career in multiple newsrooms across the region.

He began his career as contributing host for Evening/PM Magazine at WBZ-TV in Boston where his New England Portrait series introduced him to distinguished characters from Portland, ME to Pawtucket, RI.

He anchored news breaks for The Christian Science Monitor channel in Boston; and was a correspondent and anchor at WXIA-TV in Atlanta.

Nationally, Steve spent four years working at ABC news where he was a correspondent for Good Morning America and 20/20. He also served as anchor for several ABC News programs including, World News This Morning, Good Morning America Sunday and ABC’s Emmy award winning Discovery News.

Steve has also spent time as an anchor and reporter at WCVB-TV and at WFXT-TV in Boston.

Prior to joining NECN, Steve spent seven years as the primary news co-anchor at WPRI-TV in Providence, RI.

During his career so far, Steve has tracked world events and breaking news from Moscow and Madrid to Dublin and Nagano. His work has earned him respect as a storyteller along with 6 Emmy awards and the privilege of filing reports from all 50 of the United States.

A graduate of Wheelock College in Boston where he earned a degree psychology, Steve is hosting a youth symposium at the college before he leaves for the west coast. Other guests include Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Beverly Bond, and Supreme Court Justice Sonya Soto Mayor.

He is also Hosting the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston on April 30.

Steve starts at KRON on May 2.
