Tribune Broadcasting’s New York flagship station, has announced Kala Rama and Craig Treadway will anchor the station’s weekend newscasts at 5 and 10pm beginning Saturday, January 9th.

Kala Rama will join PIX11 News as a weekend anchor and reporter beginning January 4th. Rama comes to PIX11 from WABC where she reported for the New York station on weekday mornings. Prior to joining WABC, Rama worked as an anchor and reporter in Orlando at WKMG where she was nominated for several Emmy Awards, in Charlotte at WSOC and in Springfield, Massachusetts at WWLP where she received Associated Press award for Breaking News. She got her start in television news as an assignment editor at WTNH-TV in New Haven, CT.

A native of Fairfield County in Connecticut, Rama is a graduate of Fairfield University where she earned a degree in political science and communications.

Craig Treadway has been at PIX11 Morning News since it launched in 2000. While at the station, Treadway has served as a reporter and anchor. Prior to entering broadcast journalism, Treadway was a member of the University City, Missouri Police Department. While he was there, he worked as a patrol officer, a detective, and as an evidence technician. His career in law enforcement enabled him to learn all aspects of investigative work, including forensics, document searches, and interview and interrogation techniques. They would all be useful to his second career as a reporter.

Treadway entered journalism as an anchor/reporter at WRYT-AM in Glen Carbon, Illinois. He also held positions as program host and news director at KATZ-AM and news anchor at WIL-AM in St. Louis, Missouri, before switching to television at KMOV-TV in St. Louis where he was the morning anchor and reporter. From there it was on to KMSP-TV in Minneapolis as a reporter and New England Cable News in Boston as weekend anchor, eventually coming to New York and working at WNYW as an anchor and reporter. Treadway attended the University of Missouri at St. Louis. Treadway also studied, while serving as a police officer, at the Broadcast Center of St. Louis.
“Kala comes to PIX11 with extensive experience as a hard-hitting journalist, both on the anchor desk and out in the field. Her local roots and commitment to reporting on the topics that affect New Yorkers resonate with our viewers. Pairing Kala with Craig Treadway was a no-brainer. Craig is a well-respected and talented anchor who has earned his spot on the desk,” said Amy Waldman, News Director, PIX11.

Rama and Treadway will begin anchoring on Saturday, January 9th as Kaity Tong moves from weekend anchor to anchor the PIX11 News at 6:30p on weekdays beginning January 11th alongside Brenda Blackmon. During the week, Rama and Treadway will also report for the PIX11 News at 6:30p.

“We’re excited to continue to build PIX11’s talent roster, Kala is a great addition to the station and Craig is a proven performer,” said Rich Graziano, President/GM, PIX11.
