Reporter Kate Rayner has been promoted to a full-time position at WVIT-TV NBC 30 in Hartford.

Kate will be continuing her duties at the "Live Desk" for NBC Connecticut Today, and will also be a fill-in news anchor.

In an email to staff, WVIT VP of News Matt Piacente said "I’m excited to say Kate Rayner is now a full-time staff reporter." He added that since joining the station as a freelancer, Kate has "made an impact right away."

Kate tells New England One that she is "thrilled to become a permanent member of the NBC Connecticut Today Morning Team." She adds "the 'Live Desk' is such a special job. It's breaking news as it's happening-- right now. There’s no teleprompter. People are taking notice of what we’re doing in the morning, and I’m so happy to be a part of it!"

Kate joined NBC Connecticut in a freelance status in September 2014 after leaving WFSB-TV CBS 3 in August 2014. While at WFSB, Kate was the morning reporter for Channel 3 Eyewitness News.

During her time covering news in Connecticut, Kate has covered both local and national stories including the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Tragedy at Sandy Hook, and the Boston Marathon Bombings. Also, many of her local human interest stories have been featured on national news.

Prior to WFSB, she worked as the South Carolina Bureau Chief for WJBF-TV News Channel 6 (ABC) in Augusta, GA. She also spent some time behind the scenes as a production assistant at WWAY-TV ABC 3 in Wilmington, NC.

Kate says she always knew she wanted to be a reporter. When she was 6 years old, she created “newscasts” on her family vacations. She says the best part about living her dream, is meeting new people and having the privilege of telling their stories.

A native of Westchester, NY, Kate is a graduate of Loyola University Maryland, and attended high school in Connecticut at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich. She also studied abroad in Spain at the Universidad de Alcala and speaks Spanish.
