Heidi Voight has been named the new traffic reporter at WVIT-TV NBC Connecticut.

Heidi will join its weekday morning news team as a morning traffic and general assignment reporter. She will be joining Todd Piro, Shirley Chan and Bob Maxon for “NBC Connecticut Today” from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m.

“Heidi takes our traffic reporting to another level,” said Matt Piacente, vice president of news who made the announcement today.  “She knows our roads, brings a solid news background and engages thousands of commuters every day on social media.  We’re excited to have her on our morning team.”

For the past three months she has been in this same position, but as a freelance employee.

She joined NBC Connecticut from the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation where she was director of communications. Prior to that she was the public affairs officer at Connecticut Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.

Heidi is an experienced multimedia journalist who worked at WWLP-TV NBC 22 in Springfield, MA from March 2011 to September 2012, where she anchored and produced the 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm weekend news.

Heidi, who was born and raised in Milford and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, said she is "beyond thrilled" about the new gig.
