As New England One first reported, Mark Zinni is joining WFSB-TV CBS 3 in Hartford, CT. where he will co-anchor the 5:30 p.m. news with Denise D’Ascenzo.  In addition, Mark will report during the day, and "introduce folks to some different and interesting topics around Connecticut." Mark will start at the station on October 1, 2014.

Mark comes to WFSB from WJW-TV FOX 8 Cleveland where he was the weekend morning anchor, and also a reporter.  Mark joined the FOX 8 News team in September of 2009. He moved to Cleveland from Salt Lake City where he previously worked at KTVX. Prior to working in Utah, Mark spent more than six years at WPRI in Providence, RI, where he was the weekday morning anchor and a general assignment reporter. He also worked as an anchor/reporter at WTOV in Steubenville, Ohio, and was a producer/reporter at WICU in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Mark is an Emmy and AP award winning reporter and former producer. He was awarded an Emmy by the Boston chapter of the National Association of Television Arts & Sciences in 2003. Mark was honored several additional times with Emmy nominations in Boston for his work as both an anchor and reporter. He also received multiple nominations by the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of NATAS in 2010 and 2011 for his work at FOX 8 News.

Mark has covered many major news events, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and a fire that killed 100 people in 2003 at The Station Nightclub in Rhode Island. As a reporter, Mark has interviewed presidential candidates and other politicians, actors and entertainers, plus thousands of “everyday people” who share their stories.

Mark is a 1998 graduate of the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at St. Bonaventure University near Buffalo, NY. While in college, Mark was an intern at WKYC in Cleveland and NBC’s TODAY Show in New York. He famously had a "twitter tiff" with Matt Lauer in 2013 when responding to a co-worker's question about his experience with Lauer Zinni made a joke, saying Lauer was "not nice" to him. Things snowballed from there, thanks to a series of tweets and retweets. This prompted Matt Lauer to respond "@MarkZinni huh? Always tried to be nice Mark. Sorry you didn't  think so. Hope you're doing well. Matt"

A native of Cleveland, OH, Mark told Cleveland.com reporter Mark Dawidziak that the decision to leave his home town and WJW-TV "...was probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make, I've been so lucky. This is the greatest station in Cleveland, and they did everything they could to convince me to stay. But this was an opportunity I just couldn't pass up."
