Reporter Debra Bogstie has announced that she is leaving WVIT-TV NBC 30 (NBC Connecticut) after almost 12 years.

"I'm so proud to look back on my years at NBC Connecticut and elsewhere in broadcasting" she announced on her Facebook page, "and I'm so excited to look ahead to my new career.

The new career she is excited about is a position in the communications department at Connecticut Children's Medical Center which she says is "an amazing organization with an inspiring mission to make kids the best they can be."

Debra joined NBC Connecticut in July 2004, and since then has covered some of the biggest stories in the state including Superstorm Sandy, the 2011 snowstorm and the school shooting in Newtown. "I've also covered countless other stories all with the goal of informing viewers," she says, "exposing wrongdoing and making a small difference in the lives of those facing challenges they couldn't tackle on their own.

NBC Connecticut director of community & public relations Laura Gremelsbacker told New England One that the station is "grateful for her 11 years of service covering major local stories for the viewers of Connecticut. Her last day reporting for NBC Connecticut will be at our annual Joy of Sharing Food Drive tomorrow, November 21st. We wish Debra all the best."

Prior to joining NBC Connecticut, Debra was a reporter at WPEC-TV CBS 12 in West Palm Beach, FL; a reporter and fill-in anchor at WHEC-TV NBC 10 in Rochester, NY; and has worked at a station in Vermont. She launched her career in Lincoln, NE, where she worked as a weekend reporter for KOLN-KGIN TV while she was still in college.

Debra is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she received a Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. She also earned a Master's degree in organizational leadership from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut.
