Tyler Jankoski is joining WPTZ NBC 5 in Burlington, Vermont/Plattsburgh, New York as a meteorologist.
He will be the weekend morning meteorologist, and also forecast on three shows during the week.
"I am writing to let you know I’ve made an important, exciting decision as it relates to my career" Tyler wrote on his weather blog.
"January 16, I will begin at Hearst’s WPTZ/WNNE in the Burlington, Vermont and Plattsburgh, New York television market. At NBC5, I will be a full-time on-air meteorologist, where I will also be tasked with designing new graphics while maintaining a consistent presence on social media."
Tyler joins WPTZ from WVIT NBC 30 (NBC Connecticut) where he is a meteorologist, and is in charge of all digital and social media for the team's forecasts.
"I am thankful to NBC Connecticut for the opportunity to work in my home state over the past couple years" he said. "Family, friends and former teachers got to see me on television in Connecticut, a dream that one can only hope will come true some day. I enjoyed being able to go beyond the traditional role of a broadcast meteorologist while at WVIT, something that I hope will continue for the rest of my career. When we launched a new graphics package, I earned the distinction of “Employee of the Quarter” and an NBCUniversal GEM award."
Tyler joined NBC Connecticut from WGGB-TV ABC 40/WSHM-LD CBS 3 in Springfield, Massachusetts where he was the weekend evening meteorologist since May 2014.
Tyler is a 2014 graduate of Penn State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in meteorology. During college, he was very involved in Penn State's student-run Campus Weather Service, and served in a variety of roles including Vice President. He also spent time as a graphics producer and meteorologist at WPSU-TV, the University's PBS television station; and was a host on CNET-TV's "Weather or Not."
A native of Bristol, CT, Tyler started forcasting the weather in 2004 when he was in junior high school. Two years later, he started his website www.TylersWeather.com and provided daily forecasts to his readers.
