Stefan Hadl has been named Director of Engineering for Hearst Television’s WCVB-TV Channel 5, Boston’s top-rated local ABC affiliate.  Hadl’s appointment was announced today by Bill Fine, WCVB-TV President and General Manager, and is effective June 29.  Hadl replaces Dave Kaylor, WCVB-TV’s Director of Engineering, who has been promoted to the newly-created corporate position of Director of Veteran Recruiting for Hearst Television.

For more than 20 years, Stefan has lead broadcast engineering and technical operations for Hearst Television stations across the country, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented media professionals in the business,” said Fine when making the announcement.  “Before joining Hearst, Stefan served in the United States Air Force serving our country while advancing his broadcast engineering expertise and leadership skills.”

Hadl has nearly 30 years of broadcast engineering experience serving more than 20 years with Hearst Television.  Hadl joins WCVB-TV from Hearst Television’s KCRA-TV and KQCA-TV duopoly in Sacramento, CA where he has been Director of Engineering and Operations since 2004 overseeing all broadcast engineering and technical operations of the two television properties, their associated facilities, their number one local news organization, and of all their multi-media delivery platforms.  Before KCRA-TV\KQCA-TV, Hadl served for three-and-a-half years as Director of Engineering for Hearst Television’s WMUR-TV in Manchester, NH.  Before WMUR-TV, Hadl was Assistant Chief Engineer for Sacramento’s KCRA-TV and KQCA-TV having been promoted from Engineering Supervisor, and he began his distinguished career at Hearst Television at KCRA-TV\KQCA-TV in 1995 as Broadcast Engineer. 

Hadl launched his career in broadcast engineering and technical operations over the course of eight years of service in the United States Air Force.  Hadl was discharged from the Air Force as a Television Equipment Specialist NCOIC (7 Level) at Los Angeles AFB, CA and holds an AS degree in Electronic Systems Technology.

Hadl and his wife, Gina, have four children and two grandchildren: daughter Leighni, who has two little girls Gemmah and Cataleyah; daughter Chelsea; son Haydn; and daughter Rylee.
