Jason Frazer is joining New England Cable News and NBC Boston as an investigative reporter, news director Kenny Plotnik has announced.

"One of the priorities for our newsroom is to build an investigative and consumer unit that will help distinguish us from the broadcast competition in the market" the station has said.

Jason joins NECN/NBC Boston from WFSB CBS 3 in Hartford Connecticut where he has been a general assignment reporter and part of the investigative team since 2013.

Some of the investigations he has reported while at WFSB have been how hackers are putting drivers at risk; crime involving college students going unreported; Connecticut drivers ignoring school bus stop lights; and the State Police wasting $400,000 of taxpayers money.

Jason joined WFSB from WBNS CBS 10 in Columbus, Ohio where he was a general assignment reporter.

He's also worked as a general assignment and business reporter at WROC CBS 8 in Rochester, New York; and as a freeland reporter at News 12 Networks in New York City.

Prior to his time in television news, Jason worked in the banking industry. At the same time, his first professional experience as a journalist began as a Web producer for WCBS-TV, New York's CBS affiliate. He was responsible for editing all wire and staff written stories and publishing them on various section pages. Jason eventually moved onto 1010 WINS, New York's all news radio station, where he held the same position with similar responsibilities. He later freelanced at WBGO radio in Newark, New Jersey.

Jason is a 2005 graduate of Columbia Universiry where he earned a Bachelor's degree in political science.

Jason joins the team at NECN/NBC Boston in July.
