A second 7pm newscast is coming to broadcast television in the greater Boston area.

WHDH-TV NBC 7 today announced that they will launch 7 News at 7pm on March 7, 2016.

Kim Khazei and Adam Williams will co-anchor the new newscast, with meteorologist Jeremy Reiner forecasting the weather and Joe Amorosino covering sports.

“Adding a 7PM newscast only reaffirms our commitment to news and the people of New England,” said Paul Magnes, Vice-President and General Manager of WHDH-TV.  “We will continue to be innovative and invest in the future of 7 News and this community.”

"Life is so demanding, we want to make it easy for people to stay informed and get connected at a time that works for them,” said Linda Miele, News Director of WHDH-TV. "Our new 7pm newscast will help them do that.”

WCVB-TV launched a newscast at 7pm in January 2016 - they also launched a newscast at 4:30pm, WHDH already airs a newscast from 4pm-5pm. New England Cable News also has a newscast that airs at 7pm.

WHDH is expected to add more newscasts to its schedule in preparation of the loss of its NBC affiliation that will take place in January 2017.

The following email was sent to WHDH staff by General Manager Paul Magnes:

Good Afternoon,

I am excited to announce the addition of a new time period for 7 News.  Beginning Monday March 7th, we will launch a M-F 7-7:30pm newscast on WHDH.

We are committed to serving the Boston Market with the news and information that matters.  The time and ways that people view news is changing and as Mr. Ansin said in January, “We will continue to be innovative and invest in the future of 7 News and this community”.

We will be hiring a producer, an additional reporter and a writer.  Kim and Adam will continue to lead us at 7pm, along with Jeremy and Joe.

It is the right time for a 7pm newscast and I am excited to share this good news.

Best,

Paul
