TV icon Barbara Walters is returning to her Massachusetts roots for an appearance at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.

The Boston native will be speaking Tuesday evening at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum.

Walters was a news anchor and co-host for decades. She stepped down from daily television on her ABC show "The View" in May, but still does special projects for the network.

She's known over her long career for interviews with newsmakers including Cuban leader Fidel Castro and Britain's first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. Last June, Walters interviewed the father of a young California man who fatally shot six people near the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Walters, now 85, recently donated her tapes, papers and photos from five decades in journalism to her alma mater, Sarah Lawrence College.
